COURSE OUTLINE

- What is Graphic Design? How to visually communicate thoughts and ideas?
- The Design Process.
- Industry standard software programs of Adobe Creative Suites, learning the basics in: Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
- Elements and Principles of design. What are they and how do we use them.
- Logo design - What is a logo? Types of logos and designing a logo.
- Basic graphic design in layout, poster design, advertisements etc.
- How to use a variety of different mediums: digital platforms, pencils, watercolors, pen and ink techniques
and acrylic paints.
- Drawing and rendering skills.
- Typography - hand lettering, selecting the right fonts and layout of typefaces.
- Roughs and Research
- Presentations
Roughs and Research are an extremely important aspect of the creative process in Graphic Design. Ideas don't just happen
all at once, they come from research and developing a variety of thumbnail sketches worked into roughs and resulting in final design solutions. Are expected for every assignment/project in the course unless otherwise stated.

As a student in Graphic Design you will be expected and encouraged to complete all assignments with effort and energy.
1. RESPECT: MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, OTHERS, YOURSELF AND THE DESIGN PROCESS
2. NO SWEARING zero tolerance : KEEP IT PROFESSIONAL
3. NO HATS: AGAIN KEEP IT PROFESSIONAL
4. ZERO FOOD OR DRINK AROUND COMPUTERS: PERMITTED AT ART DESKS
ANY DAMAGE CAUSED WILL RESULT IN PAYMENT FOR DAMAGES
5. LATES and ABSENCES: * If they become a situation discussions will be had.
6. CLEAN UP: CLEAN UP ALL YOUR EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES. REMOVE ANY FILES FROM YOUR DESKTOP BY PLACING INTO
THE GLOBE AND LOG OUT. TUCK YOUR CHAIRS IN.
7. CELL PHONES: MAY BE USED FOR RESEARCH, MUSIC (WITH HEAD PHONES) ONLY. ZERO USE OF SNAP CHAT OR TIK TOK!
* If they become a problem then the privilege will be revoked.
8. ASSIGNMENT SUBMISSIONS: PHYSICAL SUBMISSIONS OR DIGITAL SUBMISSIONS WILL BE STATED ON ASSIGNMENT SHEETS.
MUST BE DONE ON TIME UNLESS OTHER WISE DISCUSSED WITH MR.BEAUDIN.
LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL HAVE A TIME LINE OF 10 SCHOOL DAYS.
* DEADLINES ARE A VERY IMPORTANT EMPLOYABLE AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS WHICH ARE ASSESSED IN TECHNICAL VOCATIONAL EDUCATION.
